How to Evaluate Offline Productivity Tools
Offline access is valuable when you travel, have an unreliable connection or prefer to keep working files on your device. Test the full task, because opening an app without internet is not the same as completing your work offline.
Test without a connection
After installation and setup, disconnect from the network. Create a new document, open an older one, search your notes and save changes. Restart the application and confirm your work is still available. Record any features that require sign-in or a network request.
Plan for more than one device
If you work across a phone and laptop, test how changes arrive when the connection returns. Edit a copy on both devices and inspect the conflict behavior. Decide which copy is authoritative and how you will recover an accidentally overwritten document.
Keep a separate backup
Device-local storage makes your device important to recovery. Schedule backups to another location, protect sensitive copies and periodically restore a sample file. Before switching computers, document where the application stores its files and settings.
